Pakistan calls for settlement on territorial dispute with India
UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan and India must seize the current opportunity to achieve peaceful settlement on some territorial dispute between the two countries, a senior Pakistani official said Tuesday.
Speaking at the general debate of the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly, Riaz Mohammad Khan, Pakistan's Foreign Secretary, said his country is engaged in a peace process with neighboring India that has led to significant improvement in bilateral relations.
"The two countries must now seize the opportunity provided by the conducive international and regional environment to address problems especially the Jammu and Kashmir dispute that has been at the heart of conflict and tension in South Asia," he stated.
Khan called on both sides to demonstrate political will, courage and flexibility, adding that Pakistan is pursuing a solution that is acceptable to India, to Pakistan and above all to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
"A peaceful settlement responding to the aspiration of the Kashmiri people will usher in a new era of mutual trust and cooperation in South Asia," he noted.
