U.S. approves six-party talks draft agreement on DPRK
WASHINGTON, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- The United States said Tuesday it approves the draft agreement reached in Beijing six-party talks concerning the nuclear program of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
"We have conveyed to the Chinese government our approval for the draft statement," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said.
The U.S. position came after the second phase of the sixth round of the six-party talks recess from Sept. 30 for two days as the joint draft document that had been drawn out needs the approval of the governments of the six delegations.
The talks, which aim at the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, group host China, the DPRK, the United States, South Korea, Russia and Japan.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill, as the head of U.S. delegation, attended the six-party talks.
