Israel arrests top wanted in West Bank raid
RAMALLAH, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Israeli forces arrested seven Palestinians in West Bank early Wednesday, including a top member of President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement accused of killing two Israeli soldiers in Ramallah in 2000.
Palestinian security sources confirmed that the Israeli army had nabbed Ayman al-Zeben, 33, a police officer, from his house in western Ramallah.
Israel accused al-Zeben of taking part in the killing of two soldiers who went astray in Ramallah in 2000 and were beaten to death by crowds of people inside Ramallah police station.
Israel radio said that al-Zeben was the last wanted militant in the two soldiers' killing.
The army also arrested six others during overnight raids in Jenin and Ramallah, including a son of Hamas lawmaker Miriam Saleh.
In a statement sent to the press, Saleh said tens of soldiers have stormed her house at dawn, searched every corner of the apartment and arrested her 23-year-old son, Abdel Rahman.
Israel holds 36 Hamas lawmakers in the West Bank, including Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), Aziz al-Dewaik, and four lawmakers from Fatah.
