SEOUL, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- The Inter-Korean summit set for early October will pave the way for the formation of a cross-border economic community and a permanent and unification-oriented peace regime, said Jeong Se-hyun, adviser to South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun, on Wednesday.

Jeong, also former Unification Minister, said the two Koreas will have to move one step forward toward the formation of a common economic community during Roh's visit to Pyongyang from Oct. 2 to 4.

"Economically, two Koreas should be helpful to each other, paving the way for peace and unification. For that purpose, the character of inter-Korean economic cooperation should be changed from assistance to investment," Jeong said in an essay posted on the Website of the Presidential Office.

Jeong is now serving as chairman of the Korean Council for Reconciliation and Cooperation. He said the summit between Roh and his DPRK counterpart Kim Jong-il will lay the cornerstone of a permanent peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.
