A gunman was shot by police and later died after a nearly three-hour standoff at a bank in Louisville Ky. on Monday morning.
The man, believed to be in his 40s, was shot by police after walking out of the National City Bank branch building just before noon and later died, police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley told Fox News.
The gunman briefly held four bank employees hostage inside but had earlier released them unharmed.
"He came out of the bank still holding his weapon and ran at our SWAT team in a slow jog. SWAT then fired upon him," Smiley said.
After the standoff ended, Police Chief Robert White said the incident apparently was not a robbery attempt at the suburban bank.
"At this point we don't believe it was an actual bank robbery," White said. "We're not sure if it was domestic related or if there were some other issues."
It was the second time this month that a shooting happened at a Louisville bank on a Monday morning.
Two men robbed a Chase bank branch in south Louisville on Aug. 6.
The suspects shot and wounded two employees before fleeing with an undetermined amount of money.
No arrests have been made in the case, but police have said they are looking at a "possible connection" between that robbery and a double homicide five days later.
