Curfew in Bangladesh lifted for 3 hours
DHAKA, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Bangladeshi government has lifted a curfew imposed on capital Dhaka for three hours starting from 4 p.m. local time on Thursday, according to the state news agency BSS.
The government Wednesday imposed the curfew on Dhaka and other six cities from 8 p.m. local time as the violent students protests escalated in the country.
The curfew will remain enforced until further order, a home ministry's press release said earlier Thursday.
All universities of the country, university colleges and colleges in the six cities have been closed. All the offices of the government, semi-government, autonomous organizations and business establishments in the six cities will remain closed during the curfew. But the emergency utility service providers, ambulance and medicine stores will remain out of the purview of curfew, the release said.
The violence was escalated in the last two days which left one person dead and about 600 others wounded in Dhaka and other major cities.
