Haneya slams Abbas-Olmert summit
Special report: Internal situation in Palestine
GAZA, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Ismail Haneya, Hamas leader in Gaza, has slammed Monday summit meeting between President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert that took place in West Bank city of Jericho.
"These meetings are such a reproduction of a long track that brought nothing for the Palestinian people," Haneya told members of his cabinet which Abbas has sacked following the Islamic movement's takeover of Gaza Strip.
For Haneya, such meetings aim to cover an American policy that is based on calming down the Palestinian cause "in order to wage new wars on Islamic nations and other countries in the region." The Abbas-Olmert meeting, the first Israeli-Palestinian summit being held on the Palestinian territories, started at noon behind closed doors in Jericho.
Saeb Erekat, the chief Palestinian negotiator, said earlier the meeting will handle political issues unlike the previous meetings that were allocated to resolve the Palestinian Authority financial matters.
