BRUSSELS, July 26 (Xinhua) -- More than 75 percent of Europeans are satisfied with the quality of life in their cities, and a majority are positive about their own city's future, results of a survey published Thursday by the European Union (EU) showed.

Though citizens are on the whole satisfied with the quality of services such as education, health and culture in their cities, they have concerns over issues including availability of jobs, housing costs, and pollution, according to the survey conducted by Euro barometer, the EU's opinion poll service.

"This survey shows that people are positive about city life on the whole, but it also highlights their concerns. This gives us pointers for designing future policies," said EU Commissioner for Regional Policy Danuta Hubner.

The survey focused on the quality of life in European cities, and was conducted in 75 cities. Interviewees answered 23 questions in 500 telephone interviews.

In Piatra Neamt (Romania), Tallinn, Vilnius, Cluj-Napoca (Romania), Burgas (Bulgaria), more than 80 percent of people agree that "in the next five years, it will be more pleasant to live in" their cities.

Citizens in Helsinki, Vienna, Rennes, Hamburg and Munich are most satisfied with the public transport in the cities.

There is also a reasonable level of satisfaction throughout the EU regarding cultural facilities, sporting facilities, green space, healthcare services and schools, according to the survey.

Turning to concerns, air pollution is considered as a big problem in 62 cities.

Only in 11 cities out of the 75 do a majority of interviewees agree, "It is easy to find a good housing at a reasonable price."

The best cities for job opportunities are Prague, Copenhagen, and Dublin, where more than 70 percent of respondents agree it is easy to find a job. But in three out of four cities, most of those questioned disagree with the statement.
