ISLAMABAD, July 19 (Xinhua) -- At least 14 people were killed and several others injured in an apparent suicide blast in a mosque in northwestern Pakistani town of Kohat Thursday evening, a senior official said.

Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao said the explosion hit when people were offering prayers in the mosque in a military area of Kohat.

Many dead were army recruits, he said, adding that the attack might have links with the government action against Islamabad-based hard-line Lal Masjid, or Red Mosque.

Private DAWN NEWS TV, quoting a senior local police offer, has put the death toll at 15.

Two children were among the dead, said the TV report.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.

Earlier on Thursday morning, a suicide car blast occurred at the main gate of a police training college in northwestern town of Hangu, killing seven people and injuring 27 others, state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) news agency reported.

While earlier TV reports said eight people died in the Hangu blast.

In another incident, at least 26 people including some policemen died and 31 others were wounded in a suspected suicide car blast at a market in southwestern Pakistani town of Hub, APP said.

Pakistan has seen a series of bombing attacks across the country since early July.
